When I was in 5th grade, my grandmother gave me a book of children's poetry. The same year, my class had to find and memorize a poem to bee recorded. I searched and searched for just the right subject. Finally, I settled for this one and I've remembered it ever sense. A LITTLE BOY'S POCKET Do you know what's in my pottet? Such a lot of treasures in it Listen now while I bedinit. Such a lot of sings it holds And everysing dats in my pottet And when and where and how I dot it! First of all here's in my pottet A beauty shell I pit'd it up and here's the handle of a tup That someone has braked at tea The shell's a hole in it you see. Nobody knows dat I've dot it. I teep it safe in my pottet. And here's my pennies one, two, free That Aunt Mary Dave to me. To-morrow I will buy a spade When I'm out walking with the maid I tan't put dat in my pottet But I can use it when I've dot it. Here's some more sings in my pottet Here's my bead and here's my string And once I hand an iron ring But through a hole it lost one day And this is what I always say A hole's the worst sing in a pottet Be sure and mend it when you've dot it. ----------------------Author Unknown
For some reason my computer refers to me a Sassycat. I can't figure out how to change that so for now that's my persona. In case you're wondering, I'm actually Debbie Anderson
Today is Wear Red Day. It originally was created to publicize the fact that more women die from heart failure than any other reason. That's a pretty compelling reason. Following closely behind is cancer. As someone who has experienced both of these horrible diseases, I find the statistics especially frightening. So, what can be done about it - plenty. First, we can take care of ourselves better - that means getting more exercise, even a short walk can help. Eat better, no more sugar, salt, or fat - they are all toxic. Cut down on stress. Easier said than done, you say. Not really, I say. Take time to stop and breathe. Long slow breathing can reduce your heart beat and help you to calm down. Shut off your phone. Yes, I said it! Shut it off. What is so important that you can't wait at least 30 minutes to find it out? Quit watching the news - is there anything that you can do about it? Why stress out about what is happening when there is not a thing you can do about it? If its something you really need to know (alien landing, etc.) someone will tell you. Make time for yourself, even if you have to schedule it. Do something you enjoy every day. It doesn't have to be a full day event. Take a relaxing bubble bath, read a book, put a puzzle together, meet friends for coffee, watch a movie, even better ask a friend over and watch a movie, go to an art show, a quilt show. Attend a musical concert or the ballet. Dance - going a square dance group, a tap dance class, or Zumba. Stay home and dance to your favorite songs - no one has to see you. Make time for friends and family - but make it fun time - if your friends and family cause you stress, its time to walk away. Whatever you do - just do it - don't plan to do it - do it! These suggestions aren't just for women. Men need to follow them too! Let's face it. We can't control what happens, any of us may be hit by a bus tomorrow, but we can sure do what we can to help prevent illness and death. I plan to make the most of my life and enjoy every day to the fullest. How about you?
LOL! I simply loved this! It made me smile! I remembered San Fran, California the my beloved Cowboys. I would say, "YES...yes, you can write poetry!" Thank you for this.
WHATS IN YOUR POCKET?

A LITTLE BOY'S POCKET
Do you know what's in my pottet?
Such a lot of treasures in it
Listen now while I bedinit.
Such a lot of sings it holds

First of all here's in my pottet

The shell's a hole in it you see.
Nobody knows dat I've dot it.

When I'm out walking with the maid

Here's some more sings in my pottet
Here's my bead and here's my string
And once I hand an iron ring
But through a hole it lost one day
And this is what I always say
A hole's the worst sing in a pottet
Be sure and mend it when you've dot it.

DeleteI'm not a poet. This is my one and only ever poem. It was a challenge by a friend after returning from San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteSuper Bowl XIX
By
Betty J. Crow
The flight took off smooth as silk
flying toward Knob hill.
Golden Gate Bridge
beautiful view, Fairmont’s bill.
Fisherman’s Wharf,
View of the west,
Chinatown.
Ate too much seafood, no rest.
Breakfast early,
Anticipation rose with the sun.
Come on 49ers
we crave lots more fun.
Everyone is happy,
excitement crackles in the air.
Have a Bud Light
Be sad if you dare.
Montana and Marino
wait for the call.
Where is that coin toss?
Who’ll get the ball?
Fans boo Reagan,
Cheer for their team.
Drink lots of beer,
Become somewhat obscene.
The game is over,
49ers can’t be beat.
San Francisco is chaotic,
Dolphins sigh in defeat.
Cowboy players fill half the plane.
All of us hoping next year will bring,
The Dallas Cowboys
A Super Bowl ring!
Betty, This poem is great! I too, am a Cowboys fan so I'd be with you on that plane hoping for next year! Great job! Debbie

DeleteAn interesting quote:
ReplyDeleteNo man should ever publish a book until he has first read it to a woman.
Van Wyck Brooks
Very good advice!
