We had a wonderful meeting on Saturday! With our poetry contest in full swing, we discussed some aspects of poetry. It was interesting to find out how many poets are part of our club! Three of these poets, Eva Hartley, Sterling Jacobs, and Nora Rae, shared a little about themselves and then read some of their creations. Each had a style unique to themselves. Eva writes Haiku, Nora writes freestyle poems. Sterling advised the most important part of poetry writing is conveying emotion.
As we move closer to the deadline of our Poetry Contest, I hope more members will try their hand at writing a poem.
Our 5 minutes writing exercise word was Grasshopper. Everyone had a chance to read them. It's always fascinating to discover how different one topic can be discussed. That's why we are all part of Ada Writers - we all have a different tale to tell, a different voice, a different point of view. I encourage everyone to hold on to their 5-minute exercises. These could easily be the beginnings of a short story, a poem, or even a novel.
I'm looking forward to our next meeting on Feb 9th. Bring a friend! We love new people!
